Bretton Woods Reform Group

Bretton Woods, established in July 1944, regulates the international monetary system and established the IMF. A key feature was to peg world currencies to gold, with the IMF bridging imbalances. By 1971 this was showing the strain, the US unilaterally exited, and by default the dollar was established as the world's reserve currency. As an alternative to gold and the dollar, John Maynard Keynes suggested the bancor, and there have been many attempts since, most recently by the Chinese. The purpose of this group is to discuss Keynes’ proposed reforms, and the impact they would have on the current economic and climate agendas.
