A People's Government (8 votes)

In the 21st century we enjoy a totally different kind of society to the one that existed when the current model of 'parliamentary democracy' was invented. We therefore need a new kind of government machinery which responds and acts more closely to the will of the majority of citizens. This is made more achievable through the benefit of modern communications: from TV to the internet. The existing, out-dated British party political system means that effectively just two historically and ideologically opposite parties work against each other all of the time, and we end up with government of the majority by a minority. This is neither efficient or fit for purpose. We need government working for us, the citizens, not for themselves and their own vested interests. The plan is to create a national government which is run by women and men, chosen by the people, who are not only honest and unbiased in their views but also efficient in their chosen field. They will do a good job for the whole nation, with the citizens' best interests in mind, NOT those of their party sponsors and not to the misguided aims of some right-wing or left-wing political dogma. In practical terms, we would be creating efficient managers of our country, fully accountable and under objective scrutiny, helping us to make the most of our national resources. There would be a removal of as much civil service and other bureaucracy as possible, a simpler and more transparent decision-making process at local and national level, involving many more citizens than is the case today. It's hands-on government of the people, by the people, for the people - not of the many by the few in a ruling elite.
