Stronger Communities, Stronger Economy? An invitation to share ideas with the Council on Social Action
Does the recession provide an opportunity to rebuild a better, fairer society? What can we do now to ensure that we emerge from the current economic challenges with stronger, more connected and more caring communities?
The Council on Social Action, set up to advise the Prime Minister on his agenda for social action, would like to engage people from all over the country in developing ideas about creating social renewal alongside economic renewal. Click here for a summary of thinking so far http://bit.ly/Hh5nl
David Robinson, Vice Chair of the Council on Social Action, and Senior Adviser at Community Links says,
Recession could drive division and exclusion or it could unite us extracting greater value from all that we have, embracing new ideas and working together on common goals. We would not have chosen the circumstances but there are opportunities in recession. What are they and how might be realised for the benefit of us all? The Council is eager to hear and progress the answers to these questions
We are inviting people to take part in a chain of discussions all over the country to provide feedback on the proposed paper. Click here to see the groups already arranged: http://bit.ly/15BAW
We would like to generate a nationwide discussion, and are keen to encourage individuals to also hold their own meetings before the 31st March 2009.
These discussions can be a small informal groups with colleagues or friends, or this could be a hosted group for people living in your area.
Holding your own discussion around this paper is a great way to create change in your own communities, and get your ideas heard, and anyone can get involved with minimal organisation.
We are keen that, in the spirit of Chain Reaction, these sessions bring together people from different sectors, disciplines, ages and experience.
The thoughts and ideas generated as a result will be fed directly back to the Council on Social Action, who will then make recommendations to the Prime Minister and government departments.
