Use skills of Unemployed Peopl (2 votes)
An idea from the Sheffield 'Stronger Communities, Stronger Economy' discussion group held on 26 March 2009
A lot of skilled people in all sectors are losing their jobs. They could become a force of ‘third sector mentors’, working as volunteers with charities and community organisations to pass on their skills and knowledge and organise community projects.
In the 1930s, Sheffield City Hall was built by unemployed workers. There’s no reason why public works projects shouldn’t be undertaken now to give work to jobless people and create a lasting legacy for the city.
